Gaeltacht Grants 2025

The time has come again to issue details regarding Gaeltacht Grants for our membership who wish to attend the Gaeltacht College in Donegal to enhance their knowledge of our native language in the places where the language is spoken on a daily basis in everyday life.

Such is the interest in attending these colleges that booking for places in the coming summer now needs to be done following the completion of the 2024 courses. This has happened in recent times with a huge upsurge in the numbers of people who are now wishing to gain a better knowledge of the Irish Language. Such interest is now evident from the numbers of Gaelscoileanna that are popping up all over the country. This development is also being expanded with a recent research being undertaken in setting up second level schools to cope with the demands. We equally acknowledge the interest and support the Irish Language is receiving from the statutory bodies but also from organisations such GAA and LGFA.

All of this is equally being supported by the local clubs here in Tír Eoghain with the levels of Irish Language signage evident in many of the local GAA clubs and equally being supported with bi-lingual announcements made during the course of games at local levels as well as at intercounty games. There is also an impressive input from the many young people who are now embracing the opportunity of attending the Gaeltacht Colleges in Donegal during the summer months.

Tír Eoghain is one of the leading county boards in Ulster offering these opportunities to our youth with realistic levels of grant aid. Fees to attend the college are quite high and it is encouraging to see the boards and other organisations offering assistance to attend these courses.

We therefore acknowledge the youth in our county for making the efforts to attend and learn the language where it is spoken daily and to bring back to their communities here in Tír Eoghain the further knowledge they have acquired during their time spent in Donegal in Irish speaking districts.
